This Little Heart of Mine

I was rosy with glee

Happy to meet my new baby

A few days of labor, tired yet bold

Finally my sweet baby to love and hold

Rolled to my room to recover and rest

While my newborn was rushed out for a test

Doctor came to visit and said hello

Explaining that our baby had Tetralogy of Fallot

I stopped breathing while shock took hold

Surgery was imminent was what we were told

Sadness, fear and despair did ensue

While watching to see if my baby turns blue

Echo, X-ray, blood work and more

Then surgery and panic as my heart tore

Post op images, still the hardest to bear

Wounds so tender and wires everywhere

Repaired pulmonary stenosis and VSD

Valve maintained, grateful as can be

The journey is one that is difficult to traverse

Thankful to the doctors, surgeons and nurse

I didn’t know much about CHD

But it’s more common than you’d think it would be

For those scared souls just receiving this news

The scars will fade and the grief defuse

My brave little boy, made it through just fine

My biggest joy, this little heart of mine
