Cora’s Poem
We love this beautiful scar on this beautiful girl. Abigail's scar tells a very special story and is a continuous reminder of so many important things about our journey:
It tells a story that shows how sometimes fetal development just goes "a little funny" and there is no exact reason why.
It reminds us how thankful we are to have modern medicine, testing, and ultrasounds that can detect things like heart defects and chromosome variations before birth. We cannot imagine the additional stress we would have had if we were not prepared for this journey before Abigail arrived.
It tells a story about a skilled surgeon who is educated, patient, passionate, and takes pride in the work he and his team does.
It reminds us to give thanks daily for the generous donor who provided heart tissue for a portion of Abigail's open-heart surgery procedure.
It also reminds us of the stress, tears, fear, anxiety, and sadness we have felt surrounding the journey.
It reminds us that Abigail's heart journey is not over. But it also reminds us of how far we have come and how much we have grown in such a short amount of time!
Above all, it reminds us that we are strong "Heart Parents" who get to raise a strong, funny, perfect, and smart little girl who has a happy heart and is making a big impact. If we had to, would we do it all over again? In a heartbeat.
